What clients say.
“Danny is a profectionist to the core in his work. His attention to detail is second to none. He did some intricate woodwork for us on our renovation-a linen closet that needed to fit under the eaves so had many angles, new stair treads in white oak and an oak filler for the top of the stairs among other work. He is professional from beginning to end. He is friendly, warm and easy to have around and keeps a very tidy workspace. We woud highly recommend Danny and his work!!”

“Yes. Danny does excellent work. A true craftsman a rare breed that is hard to find anymore. He did our utility room Cabinetry with built in washer dryer and below counter freezer. The white oak counter top is gorgeous. People in my condo who have seen it call it a work of art.”
— Steven Bourgon

“I've known Danny since he was a young guy looking for any carpentry work he could find. His talent was immediately evident. Aside from being very intelligent, he is also thoughtful and produces designs that showcase his talent. You should find a project and hire Danny while you can still afford his work, Danny will go far and you will remember him and his work.”

“Danny of Jacobsen Wood Design has been in and out of my life and my home for much of 2019 and 2020 and my home is transformed as a result.
We started with building a walnut sectional surround and walnut wall cabinet for the projector and stereo. I now have a living room/movie room that is gorgeous and cozy. For this project I provided the walnut and the concept design, but Danny figured out how to do it down to the technical details of mitering corners and building cabinet doors that slide on brass insets. Each step of the way, Danny consulted on ways he thought we could improve the design.
Next, we moved to the kitchen and I asked Danny to build 3 long floating shelves in fir. Simple right? Well now that they are complete, they do look incredibly simple, but in actual fact, what I asked for was quite involved and challenging from procurement of such long and wide pieces to the steel inside the wall that holds these shelves capable of an adult's weight hanging from them (as demonstrated by Danny). As they are so long and parallel to one another, there isn't room for a slight imperfection in angle or distance from one another as the eye would catch it immediately. Moreover, the wall upon which they were built was anything but straight so having the wood tightly meet the wall with no gaps for the 16ft expanse was a significant effort, but achieved perfectly.
Finally (at least finally so far) we moved onto the really big project and most significant to-do since I built my home 10 years ago - building a closet in the narrow, long hallway stretching from kitchen to living room that would contain multiple appliances. So complex and so many space limitations.
Once again, I had a concept design, well a few of them. Danny is very patient with the design phase; he appreciates getting it right and knew/agreed we weren't quite there with the first attempts. He came back to me with design drawings and quote that I just couldn't afford and that I didn't feel was quite special/unique enough. We scrapped the inside of the closet from the budget and focused on the outside where the real value of custom woodwork would come in. We designed gorgeous 4 ft wide sliders floor to ceiling 9ft. Then Danny's mixed talents really started to show because the closet was one thing, but enclosing washer/dryer, freezer and fridge inside the beast required amazing attention to detail re condensation, ventilation etc. All this, combined with space limitations that had us tweaking designs to steal an extra inch here and there so the hallway could remain 3 feet wide, but the appliances could fit in the closet with room for venting, etc.
The end result is not only stunning flat sawn fir with a whitening seal that lightens the wood, but if you look at any corner, or slide these solid wood giant doors, you also see that every thought went into design and then every attention into its execution to make this amazingly complex unit look so simple and at home in the space. Only an expert woodworker would notice that the corner posts of the closet are flat sawn on all four sides and so would realize that Danny actually built hollow posts with four sides mitered perfectly to one another in order to present flat sawn on all sides. Similarly, in order to build this unit of 20ft in length the floor needed to be leveled a great deal and the abutments to the wall and ceiling also required great attention and adjustment to deliver the perfect flow and function you see here.
All these projects required someone with a great eye who understood and took time to discuss my concept designs and then improve upon them and determine how to deliver them technically. Danny can do that technical aspect because he is a) a perfectionist with patience and persistence to getting it right, b) has a technically schooled brain from his civil engineering degree he is pursuing alongside building his woodworking business, and c) because Danny has been reinvesting his earnings into acquiring the best and most varied tools for his workshop since I've met him and now can do and build just about anything.
Don't hire Danny if you want something quick and cheap. Don't hire him if you don't want to talk through the details of your concept design or the detailed design he brings back to you for review, approval and adjustment. Working with Danny is an investment in the piece of work and in the craftsman, it is a relationship and one of my best. The outcomes of Danny's work with me bring me joy to look at and use every day. His work is truly beautiful as is the human who built them.
I will leave Danny to add the photos here to the project as he snapped pictures which are better than mine. Like I say, he's got a great eye. Thanks so much for all your incredible work, patience and professionalism, Danny.”
